Overview
Key Project Facts:
Premier emerging copper location
The Project is located near Opuwo within the prospective Kaoko Copper Belt in the Kunene Region of north-western Namibia. The Kaoko Copper Belt is considered highly prospective due to its geological similarities to the Central African Copperbelt, supporting the potential for large-scale sediment-hosted copper-silver deposits. The region remains materially underexplored, providing significant scope for new discoveries, while increasing exploration activity from companies including Kaoko Metals and Serval Resources highlights growing interest in the belt’s potential.
Controlling ownership
Okopa owns 51% of Cornerstone Mining, with the remaining interest held by Swatech Mineral Processors, a private Namibian resource exploration company backed by a small consortium of local Namibian and regional entrepreneurs. Swateck has several years of prospecting and exploration experience in the Kaoko region as well as Namibian copper development as a whole. Okopa also has an option to increase its interest in Cornerstone to 70%.
Extensive contiguous land package
Cornerstone’s copper-focused land package covers approximately 6,214 hectares (62.14 km²). The portfolio comprises interests in EPL 4305, EPL 10499 and EPL 10767, together with mining claims held by local partners. The Company aims to consolidate this position to maximise its operating footprint.
Existing known mineralisation and data
Extensive surface and near-surface copper mineralisation occurs across multiple outcrops extending for several combined kilometres. Mineralised veins have exposed strike lengths of up to several hundred metres and widths of 3-4 m, with visible malachite, chrysocolla and azurite. Historic workings and a ~15,000-tonne bulk sample provide further evidence of copper mineralisation across the project area.
Co-development with local mining claim holders
Within the wider licence area are independent Mining Claims owned by local Namibian individuals and companies. Cornerstone has entered into partnerships with Mining Claim holders to jointly develop these areas. The Mining Claim holders are also shareholders in Cornerstone, aligning their interests with the wider development of the project. Cornerstone provides development capital and technical expertise to support production, allowing local partners to participate in early cash flow generation. The Mining Claim holders are also shareholders in Cornerstone, aligning their interests with the wider development of the project. The approach is expected to provide employment opportunities within Opuwo and surrounding communities as production develops.
Extensive multi-stage development strategy
The Company aims to develop the initial oxide potential of the licences, as well as leverage agreements with local mining-claim holders to develop small-scale oxide production, generating early revenues while providing geological information for wider exploration. The aim is to utilise these revenues, alongside existing royalty income and available funds, to explore the deeper sulphide potential of the licences.
Visible long-term objective for all stakeholder
The Board intends to define a significant copper resource capable of supporting larger-scale, higher-margin copper production in Namibia for the benefit of all stakeholders.
